The Delta State Police Command has uncovered a staged kidnapping involving a bride who allegedly faked her own abduction in a desperate attempt to repay a loan of N3.6 million, borrowed from her brother to finance her bridal shower.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest of the suspected fake kidnapping victim and her accomplices to journalists on Sunday.
According to Edafe, the police received a report on July 21 regarding the abduction of a female victim by unidentified armed men in the Bonsaac area of Asaba.
Acting swiftly on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered the Commander of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad, CSP Godwin Osadolor, to ensure the safe rescue of the victim.
“Following the directive, operatives launched a coordinated intelligence-driven operation which led to the arrest of one Alfred Elisha at Koka Roundabout, Asaba, and another suspect, Ugochukwu Adim, off DLA Road, Asaba, on July 22 at about 9:00 a.m.,” Edafe stated.
During interrogation, one of the suspects reportedly confessed that the kidnapping was staged in collaboration with the supposed victim. The confession led to the arrest of the woman at the center of the case, identified as
