Contemporary African gospel artiste, Tosin Bee, has expressed deep concern over the state of the real estate sector in Lagos, describing it as “fast becoming a no-go area” following his personal experience with a property firm.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook account on Monday, the singer alleged that he was defrauded by a real estate company, PWAN Plus, claiming that he paid for land but was only issued a receipt without receiving any physical allocation.
“The Real Estate investment space in Lagos is fast becoming a no-go area for people like my humble self,” Tosin Bee wrote.
He added: “We literally save our 2 kobos to buy land from outfits like PWAN Plus — their handle is @realpwanplus — but interestingly, you can’t even mention them in a post. Since 2018, I’ve come to realize I only bought receipt and not land. I’ve been demanding for a refund, they responded briefly, now they’ve blanked me. They are no longer responding.”
The gospel artiste said his decision to speak out publicly was a last resort. “I’m not about that social media noise… but at this point, let’s start from here. If you know them, please tell them to pay me my money ooooo,” he said.
Tosin Bee’s revelation adds to growing concerns about fraudulent activities in the Lagos real estate sector.
It will be recalled that the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Housing, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, recently warned residents against dealing with unregistered real estate agents and developers.
She urged members of the public to support government efforts to rid the sector of fraud by engaging only certified professionals. “We should not allow ‘briefcase’ real estate agents, property developers, and artisans to take over the real estate sector to the detriment of professionals that abound across the state,” Benson-Awoyinka said.
She also emphasized that real estate goes beyond buying and selling, noting that it includes the provision of quality services and opportunities within its value chain.
Efforts to reach PWAN Plus for comments on the allegations were unsuccessful as of press time.
