President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bestowed the prestigious National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on players of Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, as well as their technical crew, in recognition of their exemplary performance and service to the nation.
The announcement, made on Monday, also included significant material rewards. Each of the 24 players and members of the technical crew will receive three-bedroom apartments at the Renewed Hope Estate, along with monetary awards of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to each crew member.
“In recognition of their courage, discipline, and dedication, I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON),” President Tinubu stated.
He further directed the allocation of the apartments and the disbursement of the financial rewards as a gesture of appreciation for the team’s role in promoting national pride through sports.
