The Kwara State Government has issued an urgent warning to residents to stay alert as heavy rainfall, lightning, and thunderstorms are expected to begin on Wednesday.
The advisory follows a weather forecast from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), which predicts intense rainfall across the state in the coming days.
In a statement by the Director of Public Orientation, Mr. Agboola Olanrewaju, the government urged residents living near rivers and flood-prone areas to relocate to safer locations without delay.
The statement advised residents to stay indoors during storms and avoid unnecessary movement when it appears rain is about to start.
It further advised that all electrical appliances should be unplugged before leaving home to prevent thunder-related damage or power surges.
Meanwhile, the government said dredging of the Asa River is ongoing, and drainage clearing operations are being carried out by the State Ministry of Environment to prevent flooding.
It emphasized that these precautionary steps are necessary to safeguard lives and property as the rainy season intensifies.
