Former member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Akande, who represented Ojo Constituency I, has passed away.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that Akande, a legal practitioner and two-term lawmaker, died on Wednesday from complications arising from injuries sustained in an auto crash last week in Ojo.
Akande served in the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2023. He was first elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 before defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he secured re-election in 2019.
During his time in the Assembly, Akande held several key positions, including Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Petitions, and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
His third-term ambition ended in 2022 when he lost the APC primary to the current lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Olusegun Ege.
Reacting to the news of his passing, the Director of the Ethnic Directorate of Grassroots Mobilization for Tinubu 2027 (GMT), Hon. Hakeem Olusola Sokunle, expressed deep sorrow and shock. In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser, Prince Oluwafemi Adebayo Phillips, Sokunle described Akande’s death as a personal and significant loss.
Sokunle, who served alongside Akande in the Assembly between 2015 and 2023, praised the late lawmaker as a dedicated and passionate legislator, committed to the progress of Lagos State and Nigeria.
He also highlighted Akande’s leadership and expertise, particularly during his tenure as Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and Public Petitions, noting that his contributions were “remarkable and far-reaching.”
“Hon. Victor Akande will be remembered for his simplicity, jovial nature, and exceptional personality,” Sokunle added, while offering prayers for comfort and strength to the bereaved family, associates, constituents, and the Lagos State APC chapter.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that Akande’s death has plunged his political associates, constituents, and colleagues into deep mourning.
