Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi has called on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state to be agents of national development and transformation.
Mohammed made the remarks on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ stream 1 corps members on Friday at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ganjuwa Area of the state.
The governor also urged the corps members to take the service with utmost seriousness and commit themselves to achieving the scheme’s objective of national unity and development.
Mohammed, represented by Mr Mohammed Umar, Head of Civil Service in the state, said the people of the state appreciated and supported the goals and objectives of NYSC scheme.
He said that the state government was ready to collaborate with the management of the NYSC in every possible way to ensure the success of the scheme in the state.
“To this end, we have completed the renovation of corps members’ hostels and built a brand-new multipurpose hall in the camp.
“This is the first phase of the project, and the second phase will include the construction of staff accommodation, a clinic, and other necessary facilities.
“I can assure you that my administration will continue to do everything within the limit of our resources to make the corps members and staff comfortable during orientation exercises,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Umoren Kufre, the NYSC State Coordinator, told the corps members that life in camp was highly regimented.
Kufre urged the corps members to adhere to the orientation course timetable, NYSC by-laws, extant rules, and other relevant policies.
He said that 1,700 corps members were posted to the state.
The coordinator, however, said that 1,107 corps members, comprising 608 males and 499 females, completed their registration before the swearing-in ceremony.
He commended the state governor for his unwavering commitment to the realisation of the NYSC objectives in the state
