The family of Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Adama Adekunle Emmanuel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), allegedly killed in Abuja under controversial circumstances, has raised alarm over their plight and called for justice.
His widow, Mrs. Titilayo Adams, said the sudden death of her husband has left the family stranded, with unpaid house rent and two children unable to resume school.
“My husband left behind his parents and two children who were supposed to resume school today, and our house rent has also expired. I have no job to cater for the children. All I want is justice for my husband,” she lamented.
The late officer was reportedly shot dead by a colleague in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, at a hotel in the Life Camp area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). While details surrounding the incident remain unclear, the family has alleged foul play.
Mrs. Adams questioned the explanations provided so far, insisting they were contradictory.
“From his body, we can visibly see gunshots at his shoulders and nothing strong indicating that it was an accidental fire. They want to cover up what actually occurred,” she alleged.
She also faulted the decision to move her husband’s corpse to Maitama General Hospital without the family’s consent.
According to her, the family has been given three conflicting accounts of how the officer died: an accidental discharge while fixing his rifle, a colleague’s stray bullet, or a ricocheted shot.
Despite the inconsistencies, Mrs. Adams said no official communication has been received from NSCDC authorities regarding the incident.
The deceased officer was reportedly attached to a politician in Life Camp at the time of his death.
