Malawi Govt Reaffirms Support for Private Universities |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Jessie Kabwila, has reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting private universities in their quest to provide quality and ethical education.

Speaking on Wednesday at the 15th graduation ceremony of Malawi Adventist University (MAU), held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), Dr. Kabwila emphasized the significant role private universities play in expanding access to higher education.

“Government recognises the critical contribution of private institutions in achieving inclusive and quality education. That is why we continue to implement infrastructure development and digitisation initiatives that benefit institutions such as Malawi Adventist University,” she said.

Held under the theme “With God, We Rise Higher,” the ceremony celebrated the resilience and achievements of this year’s graduating class. Dr. Kabwila congratulated the graduates for their perseverance and dedication despite facing financial challenges during their studies.

Also speaking at the event, Pastor Tony Yolamu Nyirenda, Chancellor of MAU, underscored the university’s alignment with the Malawi 2063 vision — a national agenda aimed at building an inclusive, industrialised, and self-reliant nation anchored in a knowledge-based economy.

He noted that institutions of higher learning must continue to adapt their curricula to contribute meaningfully to this vision through value-based and relevant education.

In his remarks, Dr. Felix Njili, Education Director for the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, encouraged graduates to remain grounded in faith as they transition into their professional careers.
