FC Barcelona has announced that goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has been temporarily relieved of his duties as first-team captain following the opening of disciplinary proceedings against him.
In an official statement released by the club on Thursday, it was revealed that the decision was made in mutual agreement with the Sporting Directorate and the coaching staff.
The temporary measure will remain in place until the matter is fully resolved.
During this period, vice-captain Ronald AraĂºjo will assume the responsibilities of the first-team captain.
It was reported that Ter Stegen did not want anyone from Barça to accompany him to Bordeaux for his surgery.
He also maintained no contact with Ignasi Moix, the club doctor sent to Bordeaux, and didn’t even meet him after his surgery
