The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily withdrawn access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates following the discovery of technical issues during an internal review.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the Council explained that the glitch was linked to an innovation introduced as part of its ongoing efforts to curb examination malpractice.
The innovation, known as paper serialization, was implemented in key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
WAEC noted that the technique, already in use by another national examination body, aligns with international best practices in assessment. However, a post-release quality assurance procedure revealed technical bugs that affected the integrity of the released results.
“In response to this development, the Council has taken immediate steps to review and correct the issues,” the statement read. “As a result, access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily restricted on the result checker portal.”
WAEC has assured candidates and the public that the matter will be resolved transparently and urgently within the next 24 hours. Candidates who have already accessed their results are advised to check again after the stipulated period.
“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused and sincerely apologize to all affected candidates and stakeholders. WAEC remains committed to excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes,” the statement concluded.
The Council reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining the integrity of its examinations and thanked the public for their continued trust and understanding.
