Ibom Air has placed a permanent travel ban on Ms. Comfort Emmanson following a violent incident aboard its Uyo–Lagos flight on Sunday.
The airline said the passenger’s actions posed a serious threat to the safety of the crew, fellow passengers, and the aircraft.
According to the airline, Ms. Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone before take-off despite repeated instructions, complying only after the Pilot-in-Command intervened.
A verbal altercation ensued after another passenger switched off her phone.
The situation escalated upon arrival in Lagos, when Ms. Emmanson allegedly attacked the Purser who had earlier instructed her.
She reportedly stepped on the crew member, tore off her wig, removed her glasses, struck her with footwear, and slapped her several times. Another crew member who intervened was also slapped.
Ibom Air further alleged that Ms. Emmanson attempted to remove a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon—an act that could have damaged the aircraft.
She also assaulted airline and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security personnel before being forcibly restrained and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force.
The airline has submitted a report to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward unruly or violent conduct.
“Ibom Air will always respond with the strongest measures, including legal action and permanent restrictions, against any behavior that endangers flight safety,” the statement read.
The airline commended the professionalism of its crew and the swift intervention of security operatives, urging all passengers to comply with crew instructions for the safety and comfort of everyone on board.
