An Area Court sitting in Centre-igboro, Ilorin on Monday dissolved the Islamic marriage between Sikirat and Abdul Zakariyau based on mutual agreement.
Delivering a ruling, the presiding Judge, Mr Toyin Aluko said that since the two parties had conceded to divorce, there was no need to drag the issue.
Aluko ordered that the petitioner (Sikirat) to observe one month Iddah (waiting) period as ordained in the Holy Quran before she can remarry.
He awarded custody of the only child in the marriage to the mother and ordered the respondent (Zakariyau) to pay N10,000 monthly, for the child’s feeding.
“The father will be responsible for the child school fees and health conditions.
“The father should have unrestricted access to the child, but at reasonable time and be informed of any decision that will be taken on the child,” the Judge said.
Earlier, Sikirat told the court that she was no longer interested in the marriage, on grounds of lack of love, care and attention.
He also prayed for child custody and N20,000 maintenance fees.
“My husband has three wives and 11 children. I am the third wife and I am not satisfied with his relationship with me. I want divorce,” she said.
The man wrote a letter to the court, saying that he agrees to the divorce application and has no interest in a refund of bride price.
He also agreed that Sikirat should be awarded the child custody.
He also agreed to pay the N20,000 maintenance fees, as requested.
