The Chairman of Ilorin South Local Government Council, Hon. Podo, has intensified security measures at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, in response to persistent reports of criminal activities around the campus.
Acting on the growing concerns, Hon. Podo recently deployed a newly recruited contingent of local government vigilantes to the institution with a clear directive to protect students and restore safety.
Over the weekend, the security team apprehended two young men who, during interrogation, confessed to travelling from Ibadan to terrorize students. The suspects reportedly admitted to being members of a cult group and revealed plans to use the polytechnic as their base of operations.
Items recovered from them included several mobile phones suspected to be stolen and a cutlass allegedly used in their criminal activities.
Hon. Podo confirmed that the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to student safety, the council boss urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
