Passenger Disrupts Ibom Air Flight Arrival, Assaults Crew at Lagos Airport |LAGOS EYE NEWS

A female passenger aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos caused a commotion on Sunday evening at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, reportedly assaulting a cabin crew member and confronting airport officials.

The incident occurred shortly after the flight landed. Witnesses said the woman, dressed in a white top and black trousers, became unruly and resisted attempts by airline staff and security personnel to calm her down.

She was also seen physically assaulting an air hostess, with one eyewitness alleging she slapped the crew member.

The altercation prompted the intervention of airport police officers, who eventually restored order.

Speaking on the matter, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, said preliminary findings indicated the incident was triggered by the passenger’s refusal to follow standard safety instructions.

Achimugu stressed that passengers must comply with crew directives, including the routine requirement to switch off mobile phones during takeoff and landing.

“When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before takeoff or landing, simply comply. I can’t understand why simple routine issues would lead to incidents like this. Passengers need to understand that they have responsibilities, not just rights,” he stated, adding that more details would be released after further investigation.

This incident comes just days after the NCAA imposed a six-month flying ban on Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, over alleged in-flight misconduct.
