The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted sharply to comments made by former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, during a political gathering organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kosofe Local Government Area.
Aregbesola, who once served under the APC-led Federal Government, reportedly accused the APC alongside other major political parties of failing Nigerians, while openly canvassing support for the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC described the remarks as “disappointing” and a “betrayal of trust,” accusing Aregbesola of engaging in “political desperation and opportunism” under the guise of a so-called “new deal.”
“It is ironic that a man who enjoyed the goodwill and political platform of the APC for over two decades—from his days as Commissioner in Lagos to becoming Governor of Osun State and later a Federal Minister—can now publicly denounce the same party,” Oladejo said.
The APC maintained that if the party had failed in governance, Aregbesola should also take responsibility for his role during his years in office.
On the ADC’s proposed “new deal,” the ruling party dismissed it as “recycled rhetoric,” claiming the electorate would not entrust the nation’s future to a party “without a proven track record, solid ideology, or cohesive leadership.”
Oladejo further defended the APC’s performance in Lagos, citing achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and technology-driven reforms. He stressed that the party was “not threatened by theatrics or sudden political conversions,” but warned that politics without loyalty and gratitude “leads to irrelevance.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 polls, the Lagos APC reaffirmed its unity and commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy, while urging Nigerians to be cautious of politicians who “jump ship” when their ambitions are no longer being served.
“We remain committed to building a greater Lagos and a stronger Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
