“We Didn’t Seal Gbenga Daniel’s Property” — Ogun Govt

The Ogun State Government has denied sealing the property of former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel.

Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Tunji Odunlami, told journalists at the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, on Monday that the government is unaware of any sealing of the senator’s building.

He explained that the notice placed on the property was not a sealing order but a “stop and quit” notice, directing the owner’s representatives to appear before the relevant office for clarification.

Odunlami stressed that the state follows a clear procedure before sealing any property, including physically marking the structure and pasting a sticker or cross-sign indicating sealing.

“This exercise was done in Abeokuta and is now extended to Shagamu and Ijebu-Ode,” he said, adding that similar enforcement will also take place in Ota and Ilaro where there are Government Reserved Areas (GRAs).

The commissioner urged Daniel to send a representative to the appropriate office with building permits and relevant documents for verification, noting that no such step had been taken.

He said the enforcement of physical planning laws is a daily mandate of the government, carried out without regard to the identity of developers and guided solely by law and public interest.

Odunlami added that the law applies to all buildings, regardless of when they were constructed, and may be enforced on developments predating the legislation, citing Section 73 of the state’s physical planning law.

Appealing to all property owners served with notices, he urged them to respond through proper channels for verification, adjustments, or ratifications, emphasising that “the goal is not to victimise anyone who obeys the law.”

“This invitation extends to everyone served with an enforcement notice, whether in Shagamu, Ijebu-Ode or elsewhere in Ogun,” he said.
