Fresh trouble appears to be looming for a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Comrade Abdulmumini Musbau Esinrogunjo, who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl in his office
Plans have reportedly been finalised to arraign him at the Kwara State High Court this week with the case currently awaiting assignment by the Chief Judge to the appropriate court, where trial proceedings are expected to commence.
Esinrogunjo, a grassroots politician, is being dragged to court following a petition forwarded to the Department of State Services (DSS) by the Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC), seeking justice for the assaulted girl.
A source privy to the development told The Informant247 that the politician himself was served court processes on Wednesday and may likely be arraigned this week.
According to the charge filed against him in court, Esinrogunjo allegedly committed the crime in his office, situated along Odota, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The charge revealed that he met the victim along Olorunsogo area, Ilorin, when she was going for Quranic class before he lured her into his office and raped her under the false pretence of marrying her later.
The victim, according to the charge, revealed how the defendant took her to his office on a particular day and started touching her breast, telling her he had the right to do so since he would later marry her.
The girl further recounted how the defendant congratulated her for being a woman after having s*x with her despite her resistance, saying he threatened not to marry her again if she told anyone about the illicit escapade.
Victim Narrates
The 15-year-old girl (name withheld) has narrated how she was allegedly raped and deflowered by a Kwara State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, in his office in Ilorin.
According to a document seen by The Informant247, the victim, who is currently a student memorizing the Qur’an at an Arabic school in the state capital, detailed how the politician promised to marry her before inviting her to his office.
She said, “There is a particular day that the defendant took me to his office and he started touching my breasts, I tried to stop him but he told me not to worry that he will take care of me and that he should be able to do anything with me since he is the one that will marry me. I said no to his sexual advances but he was able to have his way and had sexual intercourse with me in his office at Odota, Ilorin.
“It was on the said day that I lost my virginity because the defendant penetrated my private part. He told me not to tell anybody and I cleaned my body particularly the blood stain from my private part. After having sex with me, (he) congratulated me that I am now a woman and that I have proven my love to him. He said he has just a child with his wife and he will marry me when it is time but he will not marry me again if I tell anybody about our relationship.”
She claimed the incident has left her “mentally imbalance, moody” and unable to concentrate on her studies.
She furthered, “My Arabic teacher noticed that I am disturbed and she started to question me but I refused to tell her what happened because of what the defendant said. I later gave up and told my teacher when she threatened to expel me from the Arabic school and she requested for the defendant’s phone number which I gave her.
“She called the defendant and he promised to come and see my teacher. He later called me and he was annoyed with me that I informed the teacher and I told him the circumstance that led to it.”
Recall that The Informant247 had earlier reported that plans have been finalised to arraign him at the Kwara State High Court for the alleged offence against him and the suit is currently awaiting assignment by the Chief Judge (CJ) to the appropriate court, where the trial will commence.
Investigation into the allegation followed a petition forwarded to the Department of State Services (DSS) by the Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC) seeking justice for the assaulted minor.
A source informed this medium that the defendant himself has been served court processes and he may likely be arraigned soon.
The prosecution team, to be led by the Ministry of Justice, has presented six witnesses who are prepared to testify in court.
According to sources, there is also a medical report confirming evidence of penetration, as well as the girl’s birth certificate, which indicates that she is a minor. These, along with other exhibits, will be presented to establish the case of rape against the defendant.
