APC Denies Media Reports Linking Party to Terrorism Declaration by Canadian Court |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports circulating in sections of the media alleging that a Canadian court declared the party a terrorist organisation.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC described the reports as “highly erroneous” and “mischievous,” insisting that no such declaration was made.

The party explained that the case in question — Douglas Egharevba vs. The Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness — involved an application for judicial review of a decision by Canada’s Immigration Appeal Division (IAD). The IAD had ruled that the applicant, Douglas Egharevba, was inadmissible to Canada under the country’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).

According to the court’s June 17, 2025 ruling, Justice Phuong T.V. Ngo dismissed Egharevba’s application on the grounds that he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which the court determined was engaged in acts of subversion against Nigeria’s electoral process.

The APC stressed that the only reference to its name appeared in the “Background” section of the judgment, where the applicant claimed to have been a member of the party between 2007 and 2017. The ruling noted that this claim was factually impossible, as the APC was only formed and registered in 2013.

The party further pointed out that the judge explicitly declined to rule on terrorism allegations, stating:

“Having found that the IAD’s analysis on subversion was reasonable, this is sufficient to dismiss the application for review. I will therefore refrain from analyzing the IAD’s findings on terrorism.”

The APC maintained that the court did not and could not have declared it a terrorist organisation, noting that the party was not a party to the proceedings and that any such pronouncement would have been beyond the court’s jurisdiction and without legal effect.

The statement urged party members, supporters, and Nigerians at large to disregard the reports, describing them as false and misleading.
