The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered watertight security arrangements and deployed operational logistics ahead of tomorrow’s bye-elections in 13 states.
In a statement by the FPRO DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, States affected are Anambra, Kano, Oyo, Taraba, Enugu, Adamawa, Edo, Jigawa, Kogi, Ogun, Zamfara, and Niger.
According to the statement, senior officers, including Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police, will supervise operations, supported by the Police Mobile Force, Special Intervention Squad, Force Intelligence Department, and other tactical units.
Vehicular movement in the affected local government areas will be restricted from midnight to 6 p.m. on Election Day, except for essential services such as INEC officials, accredited media, election observers, medical emergencies, and firefighters.
The IGP also reaffirmed the ban on security aides and escorts accompanying politicians to polling units and collation centres.
State-owned security outfits, quasi-security units, and private guards are barred from participating in election security. Egbetokun urged citizens to be law-abiding and assured that adequate arrangements have been made to guarantee their right to vote without obstruction.
