The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight operatives of the Agunechemba Security outfit for allegedly assaulting and publicly stripping a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Miss Jennifer Elobor.
The operatives were sacked following a swift directive from Governor Chukwuma Soludo after reports of the incident went viral.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, announced the dismissal on Wednesday at the agency’s headquarters in Awka.
According to Emeakayi, the officers claimed they were pursuing suspected cultists on Tuesday when they descended on the corps member, subjecting her to degrading treatment.
He described their action as “totally outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable.”
He said the government had handed the suspects over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, stressing that the Soludo administration would not condone brutality or abuse of office by security operatives.
“The Soludo administration will not tolerate any form of unprofessionalism, brutality or abuse of office by security operatives. Any officer found guilty of misconduct will face immediate dismissal and prosecution,” Emeakayi warned.
Despite appeals from the victim’s family and NYSC officials for a quiet resolution, the government insisted on a thorough investigation, saying accountability was necessary to deter.
