The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed deep sadness over the reported assault of a female Corps Member by operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the scheme strongly condemned the incident, describing the operatives’ conduct as “unacceptable and dehumanising,” regardless of any justification for their operation at the Corps Members’ lodge.
NYSC commended the concern shown by the public and noted the steps already taken by the Anambra State Government in response to the development.
It further assured Nigerians of its support for the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Police Force to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice for the affected Corps Member and other aggrieved parties.
The scheme also disclosed that administrative measures are being put in place to provide both physiological and psychological support for the assaulted Corps Member.
Reiterating its commitment to the welfare and security of Corps Members nationwide, the NYSC urged all stakeholders to continue working together to safeguard the wellbeing of young Nigerians serving across the country.
