Lagos Assembly Pays Tribute to Late Hon. Victor Akande |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday held a solemn session in honour of its former member, Hon. Victor Akande, who passed away on July 30, 2025, after a brief illness.

During plenary, Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa described the late lawmaker as a courageous and dependable member who discharged his duties with distinction.

The Speaker urged his colleagues to prioritize their wellbeing, noting that “health is wealth.” He thereafter directed the Clerk of the House to convey a condolence message to the bereaved family.

The House also observed a minute of silence in honour of the late legislator.

Raising the matter under personal explanation, Hon. Suraj Tijani (Ojo II) commended Akande’s dedication during his service years, while Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa II) described him as a hardworking committee chairman, stressing that “we are all debtors to death.” Yishawu further lauded the Speaker for standing by Akande during his illness.

In his remarks, Hon. Akinsanya noted that the deceased, fondly called Lakuna, was a respected and outspoken voice in the 9th Assembly. He prayed for God to grant the family the strength to bear the loss.

Hon. Stephen Ogundipe (Oshodi I) equally appreciated the Speaker’s support for Akande’s family, while Hon. Abiodun Tobun extolled the late lawmaker’s friendly and committed nature. Tobun further suggested that the Assembly consider amending its laws to provide support for members facing health challenges.

Until his passing, Hon. Victor Akande served as chairman of the House Committees on LASIEC, Judiciary, and Petition between 2015 and 2023.
