Ogun Govt Ends Free Entry at Olumo Rock Over Safety Concerns |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Ogun State Government has expressed gratitude to residents, tourists, and visitors for the overwhelming turnout at the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the massive response reflects the vision of Governor Dapo Abiodun, to reposition Olumo Rock as a world-class tourist destination and a cultural pride for Ogun State, Nigeria, and the global community.

As part of this vision, Governor Abiodun had introduced a free-entry initiative to encourage residents and tourists to rediscover the historical and cultural significance of the rock after its renovation.

The government said the initiative had achieved its objective, with thousands of visitors taking advantage of the opportunity.

However, the government noted that the unprecedented influx of visitors created concerns about overcrowding and public safety. At certain points, the statement revealed, the volume of the crowd posed risks that could have resulted in a stampede but for the swift intervention of security agencies and on-site personnel.

“In view of this, and in line with government’s priority to safeguard lives, His Excellency has directed that the free entry initiative will come to an end on Saturday, 23rd August, 2025. Thereafter, normal access procedures will resume,” the statement read.

While regretting any inconvenience the adjustment may cause, the Ogun State Government assured the public of its commitment to providing a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for all visitors to the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex.
