Kwara Govt Warns Against Jungle Justice, Vows to Prosecute Perpetrators|LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Kwara State Government has cautioned residents against taking laws into their own hands, urging the public to always report suspicious individuals to the appropriate authorities for proper prosecution.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, and released on Wednesday, the government condemned the mob action meted out on a suspected woman in Ilorin, describing it as “an incivility and highly barbaric.”

The commissioner reiterated the administration’s commitment to protecting the rights of all residents, stressing that no form of rascality or illegality capable of threatening peace and harmony in the state would be tolerated.

“The government will not hesitate to ensure that anyone found engaging in jungle justice faces the full wrath of the law. Such actions are unacceptable and will be prosecuted and sanctioned accordingly,” the statement read.

While commiserating with the family of the victim who lost her life in the mob attack, the state government assured that it was working closely with security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.

The statement further urged residents to remain calm and avoid panic, while encouraging them to support government efforts by providing timely information to security operatives in tackling emerging security challenges.

For complaints or reports of suspicious activities, the Ministry of Social Development urged members of the public to visit its office at the state secretariat or call the dedicated line: +234 814 434 2786.
