Over 1.3 Million Nigerians Pre-Register for Voter Registration in One Week |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a total of 1,379,342 Nigerians completed online pre-registration for voter registration within the first week of the exercise.

The online process, which began on Monday, 18th August 2025, recorded the figure as of Sunday, according to a statement released by the Commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun (mni).

INEC provided a breakdown of the registrations, showing that 717,856 (52.04%) were female, while 661,846 (47.96%) were male. Young Nigerians aged 18–34 accounted for 860,286 (62.37%) of the registrants. Students represented the largest occupational group with 374,534 (27.15%), while 27,089 persons with disabilities (1.96%) also pre-registered.

Olumekun said full details by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability have been published on INEC’s official website and platforms.

Meanwhile, in-person registration commences today, Monday, 25th August 2025, at the Commission’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide. This phase allows Nigerians who prefer physical registration to enroll at designated centres and gives online pre-registrants an opportunity to complete the process.

INEC reiterated that the exercise is strictly for citizens aged 18 and above who have not previously registered, warning that double or multiple registrations remain illegal. However, inter- and intra-state transfers, as well as replacement of lost or damaged voter cards, are permitted during the exercise.

The nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will run for one year until 30th August 2026. INEC, however, urged eligible Nigerians not to delay until the final weeks to avoid last-minute rush and appeals for extension.
