The Lagos State House of Assembly has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct all agencies handling land matters to intensify efforts in safeguarding property ownership, ensuring peaceful possession, and enforcing sanctions against land grabbers across the State.
The call followed the adoption of a report on a petition titled “Abuse of Office, Malicious Destruction, Land Grabbing and Undue Conversion of Property Against Aluko Olusegun, Vice-Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA”, submitted by Mr. Tijani Moruf Oludare.
The resolution was reached at Tuesday’s plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.
Presenting the report, Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions and LASIEC, Hon. Oladipo Ajomale, explained that the Committee invited relevant stakeholders and MDAs, reviewed documents from both parties, and inspected the disputed parcel of land at Igbo Agbowa village in Ikorodu.
The Committee’s findings revealed that the disputed land, consisting of four plots enclosed by a perimeter fence, had long been in possession of the petitioner, Mr. Tijani Moruf. It also noted that Mr. Aluko failed to conduct due diligence with government agencies before payment and had erroneously relied on a purported Appeal Court judgment involving the Oponuwa Ogunmolu family.
Records further showed that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had previously demolished ongoing structures on the land.
The Committee recommended that Mr. Tijani, having obtained valid documents from the State government, should take permanent possession of the entire four plots purchased from the Oponuwa Ogunmolu Adaraloye family branch. It further directed Mr. Aluko to desist from unlawful encroachment and construction on the land, in line with a High Court judgment delivered in January 2025.
Contributing, Hon. Akinsanya Nureni stressed that Mr. Aluko should be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others engaged in multiple land sales. Other lawmakers commended the Committee for its thorough work and reiterated that the petitioner be allowed full enjoyment of his property.
The House unanimously adopted the Committee’s recommendations as its resolution.
