The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding the nation’s critical assets and infrastructure in line with its statutory mandate.
Audi gave the assurance on Wednesday while deploying a tactical team of NSCDC operatives to the site of a train derailment along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.
The Kaduna-bound passenger train, carrying 618 passengers, derailed at Kilometer 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations.
Speaking at the scene, the NSCDC boss emphasized the Corps’ role not only in protecting critical infrastructure but also in ensuring civilian safety through rescue operations, emergency response, and disaster management.
Accompanied by other key security stakeholders, Audi conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the accident site and called for urgent measures to make the corridor safer and free from future mishaps.
He commended the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, for his dedication, stressing that the NSCDC would not hesitate to prosecute anyone who found sabotaging railway installations.
