The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified its special enforcement operations against hawkers and peddlers of unregistered, fake, expired, and unwholesome pharmaceutical products across the country.
The nationwide raids, carried out in Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, and Asaba, led to the confiscation of illicit drugs including aphrodisiacs, oxytocins, narcotic analgesics such as tramadol and morphine, sex enhancement drugs, antibiotics, and painkillers.
More than 15 suspects were arrested during the operations, while counterfeit drugs valued at over ₦110,938,800 were evacuated. According to NAFDAC, the suspects are currently in custody and under investigation.
Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reiterated that the sale and distribution of medicines in unapproved locations remain strictly prohibited.
She warned that violators would face severe sanctions and urged Nigerians to desist from patronising drug hawkers.
“NAFDAC will sustain this clampdown until all violators are brought to justice,” Adeyeye assured.
