The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has dismissed media reports alleging that its officers were compelled to pay ₦350,000 for training certificates.
In a statement issued by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, NCoS clarified that it has not sanctioned the collection of any such fees.
According to the statement, the only approved payments are caution fees of ₦1,000 and ₦2,000, depending on the category.
The Service also noted that its Cooperative Society exists solely to provide welfare support for personnel, including operating a microfinance bank.
It further disclosed that entitlements for retirees and families of deceased officers are up to date.
NCoS urged journalists to always verify information through its Complaint Response Desk before publication in order to avoid misleading reports.
