The Lagos State Government has condemned in strong terms the assault on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) at Mile 2, describing the incident as a direct affront to state authority.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transportation, the officers were viciously attacked while carrying out their lawful duties of enforcing road safety regulations.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stressed that such acts of lawlessness will not be tolerated.
“This appalling assault is not only an attack on the officers but also on the authority and dignity of the Lagos State Government. The perpetrators will be relentlessly pursued, apprehended, and made to face the full weight of the law,” Osiyemi said.
The commissioner noted that VIO officials are legally empowered to safeguard lives by ensuring road safety compliance, adding that obstructing or attacking them undermines the rule of law and public order.
He confirmed that the injured officers are responding to treatment, while reassuring all enforcement personnel of the government’s commitment to their safety and dignity.
“The Ministry stands firmly with the affected officers. We will not allow criminal elements to intimidate or obstruct the lawful work of government agencies,” Osiyemi affirmed.
