The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has issued a fresh 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve all lingering issues affecting its members or face a nationwide industrial action.
The association, in a communiqué issued at the end of its 77th General Executive Council (GEC) meeting held at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State, decried what it described as the Federal Government’s insincerity and neglect of the polytechnic sector.
Among the demands tabled by SSANIP are the release of the long-awaited Scheme of Service, constitution of the Renegotiation Committee on the 2010 Agreement, payment of outstanding arrears including promotion arrears, 25/35% salary review arrears, wage awards, and the full implementation of the new minimum wage.
The union is also demanding the release of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Needs Assessment Funds for polytechnics.
The 21-day ultimatum, which commenced on August 27, 2025, was contained in a statement jointly signed by SSANIP National President, Comrade Philip Ogunsipe, and National Secretary, Comrade Shehu Gaya.
The communiqué stated:
“The Council in session reviewed its engagements with government on key issues including the release of new schemes and conditions of service, constitution of the renegotiation committee of the 2010 agreement, non-release of the 2023–2025 Needs Assessment Fund, and payment of arrears.
After exhausting its patience on these matters, the Council observed with great displeasure the insincerity of government in keeping to previous agreements and its failure to prioritize the education sector.
Despite several efforts to ensure peaceful resolution, the government has only paid lip service to the issues.”
The union warned that failure by the government to act within the 21-day window would leave it with no option but to withdraw the services of polytechnic senior staff nationwide.
