The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ending paper-based operations in ministries, departments, and agencies, insisting on a December deadline for the full takeoff of the Electronic Records and Archiving System (e-ERAS).
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, gave the assurance in Abuja during the flag-off of the Ministry of Interior’s Content Management System, making it the 18th ministry to go live on the platform.
She stressed that there would be no going back on the initiative, which is designed to optimize civil service operations, enhance transparency, and strengthen accountability.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, while unveiling the project, said technology must be deployed to improve governance, noting that while it would not replace human capacity, it would significantly boost efficiency.
He disclosed that the Citizenship and Business Department of the Ministry is now fully automated, with applications for citizenship, business permits, and marriage licenses available online.
In her remarks, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to fully adopt the system, stating that all departments are now equipped with computers and have been automated to align with the new process.
