The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguard lives and property, maintaining public order, and protecting democracy.
He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the association to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Egbetokun commended the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for introducing a scholarship initiative for children of fallen heroes, saying this will go a long way in easing the burden of the beneficiary families.
He said the leadership of the Force would continue to welcome initiatives that honour the sacrifices of fallen officers and support the welfare of their families.
Led by its President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, DEPOWA disclosed that the scheme would begin with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in September 2026.
The scholarship is expected to benefit children of officers who lost their lives in service and also promote national cohesion by admitting children from surrounding communities.
The association also acknowledged the sacrifices of police officers in tackling violent crimes and contributing to international peacekeeping efforts.
