President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to take immediate steps towards reducing the cost of food across the country.
Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at a workshop for Senate correspondents.
Abdullahi said the directive aims to guarantee safe passage of farm produce along major transport corridors, thereby lowering logistics costs and stabilising market prices.
“Reducing transport expenses is critical to making food affordable and to the realisation of President Tinubu’s food sovereignty agenda,” the minister stated.
He further noted that reforms in the cooperative sector, alongside new agricultural programmes, would boost production, strengthen farmer support systems and enhance livelihoods nationwide.
Other speakers at the workshop included Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Senator Ita Enang, and the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman.
