Authorities have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah in connection with the fatal sniper attack that killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.
Robinson was taken into custody Thursday night, roughly 33 hours after the shooting. Law enforcement sources said Robinson’s father alerted a minister, who in turn informed police, ultimately leading to the arrest.
Investigators reported recovering bullets marked with the phrase, “Hey fascist! Catch!” Family members described Robinson as “full of hate.” Officials confirmed he fired from an elevated position about 200 yards from the stage, striking Kirk in the neck.
The incident occurred as Kirk, 31, was addressing supporters during his American Comeback Tour. He was co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA and was widely known for his combative debates on college campuses. He is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two young children.
President Donald Trump announced the arrest during an appearance on Fox & Friends, praising law enforcement and calling for Robinson to face the death penalty.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox condemned the killing, describing it as a “political assassination” and noting that capital punishment remains legal in the state.
