13-Year-Old Deltona Student Arrested After Posting Gun Video |LAGOS EYE NEWS

A 13-year-old Deltona boy was arrested on Sept. 15 after sending a video of himself loading a gun to fellow students at Deltona Middle School, authorities said.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the boy filmed himself handling and loading the firearm and sent the video to classmates along with rap lyrics referencing killing.

The incident prompted some students to stay home from school out of fear, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Deputies met with the boy’s mother, provided her with multiple firearm locks, and confirmed that all weapons in the home were properly secured.

The arrest came just days after two other Volusia County students were taken into custody for making threats toward their schools.

On Sept. 12, a 15-year-old Deltona High School student was arrested after writing a message on his school-issued laptop threatening to bring a gun to campus and shoot another student. The threat triggered an alert from Gaggle, a student safety software used by schools to monitor activity on school devices for concerning content.

A school resource deputy intercepted the teen before he boarded the bus to go home. Deputies said he admitted to writing the message but claimed he had no intention of carrying it out, saying he was angry after being bullied.

That same day, deputies also arrested a 13-year-old student at River Springs Middle School. Investigators said the boy drew an AR-15 style rifle on his desk, alongside the phrase “(expletive) my school” and a date and time. He later told deputies he was being bullied and was trying to deal with the situation on his own.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that all threats are taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated to ensure student safety.
