The Lagos State Government has reacted to a disturbing video circulating on social media that shows a group of students, alleged to be from Excel College, Ejigbo, smoking and consuming alcohol inside a dormitory.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, the government described the development as unacceptable and contrary to the values and behavioural standards expected within the state’s education system.
According to the Commissioner, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has already launched a full-scale investigation into the matter.
A Monitoring and Investigation team has been dispatched to authenticate the video, identify the students involved, and assess the level of institutional supervision.
Preliminary engagement with the school’s management has also commenced to ascertain the facts. Alli-Balogun warned that any school found culpable would face sanctions in line with Lagos State education policies and regulations.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of students, he stressed that learning environments across the state must remain safe, disciplined, and conducive to academic and moral development.
