The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday resumed plenary after a six-month suspension that followed the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, reconvened at the Assembly Residential Complex along the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway, marking their first sitting since March 12, 2025.
The session took place barely a week before President Bola Tinubu announced emergency rule, which effectively halted legislative activities and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
As plenary proceedings commenced, a large crowd of supporters gathered at the Government House, Port Harcourt, in anticipation of Governor Fubara’s arrival following his reinstatement.
