Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has applauded the Federal Government’s decision to restore history as a compulsory subject in Nigerian schools, describing it as a major step toward strengthening education and national consciousness.
Speaking at the launch of Crowned by Fate, a biography of the Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, on the occasion of the monarch’s 15th coronation anniversary, Adeleke stressed that history plays a vital role in shaping informed leaders and citizens.
“Our nation must never underestimate the power of history. Without knowing where we are coming from, we can hardly make informed decisions. History empowers us when we are deep into it. It helps current leaders to navigate the challenges of today by drawing from the experience of yesterday,” the governor said.
Adeleke further called on political leaders, public officials, and other prominent figures to document their life journeys through biographies and autobiographies.
He noted that such works not only preserve historical incidents but also provide valuable lessons for future generations.
The governor disclosed that his spokesperson is already working on his biography, which will be unveiled in 2026 during his birthday celebrations.
“The goal is to allow the citizens of today and tomorrow to read about the mindset of the leader, his hopes and aspirations, his challenges and successes,” he explained.
While felicitating with Ataoja, Adeleke praised the monarch’s leadership and the transformation of Osogbo into a metropolitan city under his reign.
He assured that the state government would continue to support royal fathers in preserving their histories and development plans.
On infrastructure, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to modernizing Osogbo, disclosing that work is ongoing on an ultra-modern sports stadium and improved urban linkages with surrounding towns.
Adeleke concluded by pledging personal and official support for Crowned by Fate, promising to secure copies for his family and government officials.
