Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroon’s president Paul Biya, has publicly called on Cameroonians not to vote for her father in the country’s upcoming October 2025 election.
Speaking during a TikTok live session, Brenda who goes by the name “King Nasty” online criticized her father’s 43-year rule, blaming it for widespread poverty, unemployment, and stagnation in the Central African nation.
Her comments are unprecedented in African politics, marking the first time a sitting president’s child has openly opposed their parent’s rule and urged citizens to vote against them.
President Paul Biya, 92, is one of the world’s longest-serving leaders. Since taking office in 1982, his tenure has been marred by allegations of authoritarianism, corruption, and disputed elections.
Brenda Biya’s remarks have sparked debate among Cameroonians. While some view her statement as a bold challenge to entrenched power, critics argue that her privileged lifestyle abroad and strained ties with her family raise questions about whether her concerns truly reflect the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens.
