The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over a fraudulent message circulating on social media, urging ethnic coordinators and members of various groups to submit personal details, including banking and identification information, under the guise of stipend payments allegedly directed by the party’s State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, described the message as “false, fraudulent, and mischievous,” stressing that no such directive was given by the chairman or any organ of the party.
“The Lagos APC does not conduct its affairs through an indiscriminate collection of sensitive data such as BVN, NIN, or voter cards, nor do we distribute stipends in the manner suggested,” Oladejo clarified.
He noted that the fraudulent message was the handiwork of scammers bent on exploiting unsuspecting individuals and tarnishing the image of the party.
The APC urged its members and the general public to disregard the message and resist sharing personal or financial information with unknown persons.
“For the avoidance of doubt, any official communication from the Lagos APC will be disseminated only through established party structures, verified channels, and authorised spokespersons,” the statement read.
The party also called on security agencies to track down those behind the criminal act and ensure they were brought to justice.
