Glovo to Distribute 3,000 Free Reflective Jackets to Riders as Lagos Enforces Safety Directive |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State Government has reinforced its commitment to road safety with a new directive mandating the use of reflective jackets and visibility tapes by all courier and delivery service providers operating in the state during evening and nighttime hours.

According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education and Innovation, Mr. Oluwatobi Idowu, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, riders operating between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. must wear reflective jackets. In addition, all delivery motorcycles and bicycles are required to be fitted with reflective tapes or markers to enhance visibility and reduce accident risks.

The statement further directed delivery companies to sensitise their riders and ensure full compliance, warning that enforcement agencies, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), would impose sanctions on violators.

In response to the directive, Glovo Nigeria has pledged full compliance and announced plans to provide 3,000 reflective vests free of charge to couriers on its platform within the next month.

The company’s General Manager, Mr. Lamide Akinola, in a letter to the Ministry, commended the government for the initiative, noting that it would help safeguard riders as well as other road users. He also urged other delivery service operators in the state to adopt similar safety measures.

Welcoming Glovo’s move, the Ministry of Transportation said it looks forward to sustained collaboration with courier and delivery service providers as part of efforts to build a safer and more responsible delivery ecosystem across Lagos State.
