The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has attributed the Abuja–Kaduna train derailment of August 26, 2025, to excessive speeding and human error.
In a press statement signed by its Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, the NRC revealed that findings from its internal investigation showed that over speeding and the misapplication of the emergency braking system led to the accident.
Opeifa assured the public that the corporation is committed to implementing the recommendations of the investigation committee to prevent a recurrence.
The incident, which occurred on August 26, involved a passenger train carrying 618 people. While no lives were lost, 21 passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
