The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has issued a stern warning to officers against extortion, harassment, and unprofessional conduct, particularly targeting youths.
Speaking at a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders, CP Jimoh emphasized the need for officers to uphold the rights and dignity of citizens, stressing that crime prevention must be conducted with a “human face.”
He cautioned against the indiscriminate practice of stopping youths to check their phones, describing the act as unlawful.
According to him, such checks are only permissible when the devices are exhibited in established cases under investigation and must be conducted strictly within police stations in line with the law.
Highlighting recent successes of the Command, CP Jimoh announced the arrest of Samsideen Oladiti, also known as Shameleon, linked to two violent crimes; Jude Onouha, the leader of a notorious car vandalism gang who disguised as security personnel to gain entry into estates; and John Samuel, an ex-convict, armed robber, and hired assassin apprehended for armed robbery and attempted murder.
The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to rid the state of criminal elements and urged residents to continue cooperating with the police by providing credible information in their communities.
