President-elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has expressed gratitude to Malawians for entrusting him with the leadership of the nation for the next five years.

Delivering his first presidential address, Mutharika applauded his supporters for their unwavering commitment, noting that their tireless efforts were instrumental to his electoral victory.

He also commended outgoing President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for ensuring a peaceful transition of power, describing the gesture as a demonstration of statesmanship and respect for democratic values.

The President-elect further acknowledged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) alliance partners and the media for their role in promoting peace, transparency, and accountability during the electoral process.

Turning to national priorities, Mutharika said his administration will focus on economic revitalisation, job creation, and strengthening key sectors such as healthcare and education. He urged Malawians to embrace unity and determination in building a prosperous future.

“If we work together, we can build a brighter future for all Malawians,” he said.

However, Mutharika issued a stern warning to the outgoing government, civil servants, and politicians against engaging in dubious financial dealings, including questionable payments, irregular money transfers, and suspect contracts. He stressed that such practices undermine public trust and will not be tolerated under his leadership.
