The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Arise News anchor, Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, describing it as a regrettable and painful loss to the Nigerian media industry and the nation at large.
In a condolence letter addressed to the Chairman of Arise News Channel, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, Idris said the late journalist was a vibrant and dedicated broadcaster, a consummate lawyer, and a model of professionalism whose work resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
“We received with shock the news of the untimely passing of Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu. She was a passionate and brilliant journalist whose tragic death is a grievous loss not only to the Arise News family but to the Nigerian media fraternity, and indeed the nation,” the Minister said.
He described the incident that claimed her life as “heinous” and assured that investigations would be carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.
Idris extended his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s parents, siblings, colleagues, and all who mourn her, praying for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.
