The Imo State Government has announced a strict ban on loading and offloading of passengers, as well as street trading and hawking, within the premises of the Control Post Flyover in Owerri.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Ralph Nwosu, Esq., the government said the flyover is strictly designated for vehicular traffic and not for commercial activities.
The directive prohibits traders, transport operators, and other individuals from using the facility for business purposes, warning that violators will face the full weight of the law.
The statement further cautioned against loitering around the flyover, stressing that anyone found without legitimate business in the area, whether during the day or at night, will be apprehended.
“The Imo State Government will not hesitate to enforce these regulations to ensure the safety and efficiency of our transportation infrastructure,” the Commissioner said, adding that the Ministry of Works, in collaboration with relevant agencies, will monitor compliance and enforce the rules.
The government urged transport unions, traders, and the general public to comply with the directive in order to preserve the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the flyover.
