Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said that the era of labeling Nigeria as the “most corrupt country” in the world is over.
Speaking during her official visit to Gombe State, where she inaugurated several health facilities including the new Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kumo, Mrs. Tinubu said the world now sees Nigeria as a nation of opportunity and growing global relevance.
She urged Nigerians to stop speaking negatively about their country, stressing that the international perception of Nigeria has changed due to the ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“Gone are the days when they say Nigeria is the most corrupt country. You won’t hear that again,” she said. “Even when I go abroad, when they hear you’re from Nigeria, everybody’s interested. They want to come to Nigeria. Nigeria is the next destination.”
The First Lady also praised Gombe’s natural scenery, likening its landscape to the English countryside, and called on citizens to show more national pride and support the government’s efforts to rebuild the nation.
She added that her commitment as First Lady is driven by the desire to ensure a safer, better Nigeria, saying, “I’m working so hard so that when my husband finishes his tenure, me too I can walk around safely. That is what drives me.”
