Germany is ready to support rebuilding projects in the event of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan said on Tuesday.
“We already have a project, for example transitional shelters,” the minister told Deutschlandfunk radio. “They are already financed. They are ready.”
She noted that “a large part of the Gaza Strip has been destroyed. This means that people have no roof over their heads, there is hardly any infrastructure left.”
The hygienic situation for civilians is also catastrophic, Alabali Radovan warned, adding that her ministry can provide support with sanitary facilities, water supply and the removal of rubble.
“These are just a few examples where we already have experience and where we could provide immediate support,” she said.
Alabali Radovan sees both the Palestinian militant group Hamas and the Israeli government as having a duty to seal a peace agreement, with negotiations ongoing in Egypt over US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
“Both are now responsible for finalizing a possible ceasefire,” she said.
