The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has reported a fresh case of railway vandalism along the Lagos–Ibadan Standard Gauge corridor.
The incident occurred between Agege and Agbado Stations, where unknown persons tampered with critical signalling equipment.
According to the NRC, the vandals removed signal machine cap protectors and cut connection cables on Switch Point Machine No. 2. The sabotage was uncovered during a routine inspection on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The Corporation condemned the act, describing it as a dangerous assault on national infrastructure. It warned that such tampering could endanger passengers, disrupt train services, and put railway staff at serious risk.
Despite the damage, the NRC assured that train operations on the Lagos–Ibadan line remain uninterrupted. Security agencies have been alerted and an investigation is underway to track down the perpetrators.
The NRC further appealed to residents of communities along railway corridors to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity around railway facilities, reiterating its commitment to safe and reliable rail transport across the country.
